6.1 magnitude earthquake shakes Japan

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook Japan on Thursday.

The epicenter was reported below the Chiba plateau in Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The quake struck at 10.41 pm local time, officials said. Locals also said the quake was clearly felt. They were even scared for a while.

The quake was felt in many areas. There were no immediate reports of injuries or severe damage. The epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
